The children have come back from the holidays eager to learn and to share what they did.
We have read the story of 'The Train Ride' and all the children have done a piece of writing. 'We learned about trains.' Stephan. 'We read 'The Train Ride.' They said 'That's what I see' Sam. 'The train was going on the tracks and they saw some animals and they saw some sheep' Jack. 'They saw a tractor in the story.' Orlando.
We have had visitors this week to visit our class. They are going to be starting Reception in September.
Our home learning this week is to make something out of junk modelling. Please bring a plastic bottle in for our Art activity next week.

May King and Queen
This week we have been learning about weight for Maths. We looked at different objects and used the language of heavier and lighter to compare them. We found out that even though things are big they are not necessarily heavy. We learned how to use the weighing scales and we talked about what happens when they balance. We estimated how many little bears would weigh the same as a big bear.
In our computing lesson we learned about how to use the lap top and we will all be taking a turn practising using the touch pad.
At the end of the week we had our May King and Queen celebration. Jasmine and Jimmy were amazing as the May King and Queen. All the children were fantastic doing the dance and we all enjoyed watching the other classes dance.
We wish you all a happy and restful half term.

Willow sharing assembly
The Assembly this morning went so well. The children said their lines beautifully and sang so well. I'm sure all the parents must have been very proud!
We have been learning about sharing this week. All the children had a go at solving problems. They were asked to share four sandwiches between three teddies. We had lots of ideas including give the last sandwich away, and some children were able to work out the last sandwich could be cut into three. We introduced the language of half and third.
We are continuing to practise our dance and are all looking forward to dancing at the May King and Queen celebration next week.
Our home learning this week is to design a poster for our Summer Sizzler event. I'm looking forward to seeing some interesting pictures.

Monet
This week we have been learning about the artist Monet. The children remembered that he lived in France a long time ago and he was a famous artist.
We looked at some of Monet's paintings and we focused on the painting of waterlilies. All the children have painted their own interpretation of Monet's 'Waterlilies' onto canvas using acrylic paint. We will be displaying these on open evening on the 9th July.
In Maths we have been learning about time. We learned to sequence our day and talk about what time we do things in the day. We looked at clocks and learned about the hands on the clock, learning language such as minutes, hours and o'clock. We talked about what we could do in one minute and the children explored this. Perhaps you could find out at home the different things that you can do in one minute.
We have been practising our May dance this week. The children are doing really well skipping with their partner to the music and following the instructions. We are hoping for a sunny day on Friday the 25th of May for our May Day celebrations.
We have had a lovely week this week having the parents in to work shadow. Thank you to the parents who came in to shadow their child. We hope you have learned more about what learning in the Reception Class looks like.

Ducklings swim!
We have continued to enjoy our ducklings. They have grown very quickly and on Tuesday we watched them swim in the paddling pool. What fun! On Thursday they went back to the farm and we all wished them a happy life.
This week we read the story of 'The Ugly Duckling' and we all wrote about it. Some children were able to begin to retell the story in their own words. Some children also wrote their own lovely books about The ugly Duckling too.
In Maths we learned about capacity. We used language such as full, half full and empty. We estimated how many scoops of water would be needed to fill up a jug. We also did some problem solving. Would a wide jug hold more than a tall bottle? Perhaps you could do some cooking with your children and measure amounts in a measuring jug?
We had some lovely home learning from the children to share about life cycles. This week's home learning is to share the technology that you use at home and what you have learned to do on it. We hope you enjoy your Bank Holiday Monday!

Ducklings!
We have had a very exciting week this week. We had some eggs delivered to our school and when the eggs hatched out we had five beautiful, fluffy ducklings. The children had a chance to observe the eggs cracking and next week when the ducklings are stronger we are going to watch them swim in a paddling pool and handle them.
We have learned about what a life cycle is and we have learned more about the life-cycle of both a frog and a duck as we also have tadpoles in our classroom. We all made a frog life-cycle bracelet and we all made paintings of ducks and ducklings. Many of the children also wrote lovely books about ducks.We have made a lovely display in the classroom which we hope everyone will come and have a look at at open evening in July.

Redbourn Primary School
Welcome back to a new term and a new school. We are now called Redbourn Primary School and we have a new Head Teacher called Mrs Hinchliffe.
The children have come back happy and eager to learn. They were excited to talk with their friends and teachers about what they did in the holidays and then they all wrote about it. We are very pleased with the quality of the writing that the children produced.
Mrs Hinchliffe came and read a story to the children and they all enjoyed getting to know her better.
On Friday afternoon we had the grand opening of the school. We had an MP who came and gave a speech and planted a tree and then the youngest and the oldest child in the school opened a ribbon to declare the school open. What a lovely event!
Our home learning this weekend is to send in a picture of your sporting hero and have a go at writing about them on the speech bubble.
